Liverpool target Jadon Sancho likely to leave Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho is ’90 per cent’ likely to leave the Bundesliga club this summer, according to Sky Deutschland.

Liverpool are believed to have had Sancho on their radar for some time and arch-rivals Manchester United were close to signing the 20-year-old last summer.

The 18-cap England ace is regarded as one of the best youngsters in Europe and last season’s phenomenal return of 17 goals and 17 assists in 32 appearances endeared him to the Premier League giants.

Having left Manchester City as a teenager, Sancho has enjoyed a meteoric rise and was described as a ‘great talent’ by Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick. However, he could soon return to his homeland, with Sport1 reporting that Dortmund ‘assume’ the winger will leave at the end of the season.

With Dortmund currently struggling in the Bundesliga, it is believed that a failure to qualify for the Champions League would mean Der BVB would sanction his departure in order to make up for the financial loss.

Formerly managed by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, who led them to two league titles, Dortmund’s plight this term has been indicative of a drop-off in Sancho’s numbers, as the youngster has managed just three goals and nine assists.

As Mohamed Salah turns 30 next year, Liverpool must begin to consider who will replace the Egyptian in the future.

With a market value of £90m and Dortmund holding out for a premium last summer, Sancho would not be an inexpensive capture for the Reds.

However, missing out to a Premier League rival on a player with such a high ceiling would hurt more in the long run than potentially footing the bill for years of top-class service.
