Everton hopeful Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be fit to face Liverpool

Carlo Ancelotti is hopeful that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be fit to face Liverpool this weekend.

Everton make the short trip to Anfield on Saturday evening, in what promises to be a nervy Merseyside derby.

It is a massive game in the Premier League top-four battle, with Liverpool remarkably aiming to avoid a fourth successive defeat at Anfield.

Calvert-Lewin will miss Wednesday’s visit of Manchester City, but speaking to reporters before the game [via the Liverpool Echo], Ancelotti suggested that he would be available this weekend:

Not available for sure are Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Gbamin, The others are all okay and will train today.

For Dominic I think it’s a matter of days. We hope he will be available on Saturday.

Calvert-Lewin is really important because he gives us the opportunity to play in different ways, long balls for example.

Without him we lose some opportunities to play but we played really well at Wolves without him and Richarlison so I am not worried for the player that I am not going to play, I have to be worried for the players that I am going to play.

Calvert-Lewin is having an outstanding season for Everton, so there is no denying that it would be beneficial to Liverpool if he was out of the game.

The England striker has 13 goals in 20 league games in 2020/21, leading the line superbly and putting himself in the running for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

With Liverpool potentially having to play Ozan Kabak and Jordan Henderson as a centre-back pairing again, Calvert-Lewin could be licking his lips.

It is an area Everton could look to exploit, as they aim for a first win at Anfield since 1999.

matchday.
