Virals: Barry Douglas lauds ‘special’ Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott

Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott was sent out on loan to Blackburn Rovers in order to continue his development in competitive senior football this season.

Having ended the campaign last week with seven goals and 11 assists in 41 Championship outings it’s safe to say the 18-year-old certainly delivered during his Lancashire stay.

Attention will soon turn to Elliott’s next move – whether another loan spell or a place in Jurgen Klopp’s plans lies ahead.

In the meantime, Rovers left-back Barry Douglas has told takSPORT just how talented the winger is and the level he believes Elliott can reach.

Signed from Fulham as a fledgeling 16-year-old in 2019, the left-footed wonderkid has represented England at youth level and made nine first-team outings for the Reds prior to his season-long loan move.

Klopp could have a real gem on his hands in Elliott.

Getting the balance right between allowing him to develop and doing what’s best for Liverpool is no easy task.

In an ideal world, the Reds would go into next season with the starlet as part of the squad – acting as cover for Mohamed Salah and co whilst making a majority of his appearances in the domestic cup competitions.

Having enjoyed a prominent role at Ewood Park and being exposed to 43 senior matches, Elliott himself may feel he needs a further taste of first-team exposure.
