Liverpool’s £31.5m midfielder reaches verbal agreement over Barcelona move reports Fabrizio Romano

This season was the last in a Liverpool shirt for Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

The 30-year-old joined the club in 2016 and went on to help the Reds win the Premier League and Champions League.

With his contact running its course at the end of this season, Wijnaldum has made the decision to find pastures new.

Plenty of club’s had registered their interest, but according to Fabrizio Romano, his decision is already made.

The transfer guru reported yesterday that Wijnaldum had reached a verbal agreement with the Catalan club…

As Romano states, the Dutchman is set to join the club until 2024 on a three year contract.

One of the more interesting parts of the deal is that Romano states he will be reducing his salary.

At had initially been thought that Wijnaldum’s reasoning for leaving was due to his wages.

The Dutchman’s demands were simply too much for the Reds to agree on hence why he is parting ways.

However, Romano reports that Wijnaldum will be reducing his current wages to join the Spanish club.

It leads to an interesting story arch, as maybe his reasoning for leaving Liverpool was something else entirely.

Whether this was true or not is yet to be confirmed – the Dutchman did incredible things for the club and will leave a legend.

matchday.
