Liverpool defender Nat Phillips is attracting interest from a number of Premier League sides following an impressive breakthrough campaign for the Reds.

The 24-year-old became the unlikely hero last term as Jurgen Klopp’s squad was decimated by defensive injuries.

As the German manager prepares to welcome back Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip to pre-season next month, the potential availability of Phillips has unsurprisingly altered many rivals.

Burnley and Brighton are among the leading contenders whilst Newcastle and Southampton have also made their interest known.

This is according to a report from Goal, as cited by Anfield Watch on Twitter.

The report claims as things stand there is a reluctance to see Phillips leave Anfield, although that could change should lofty offers be forthcoming.

Born in Bolton, the no-nonsense central defender endeared himself to Kopites with a string of impressive performances – capped off with a goal against Burnley.

During 2020/21, the former Stuttgart loanee made 20 outings for the Reds – earning an average Sofascore rating of 7.19 in the Premier League.

Phillips has joined an exponential rise in market value over the last 12 months and is now valued at £7.2million and under contract until 2023 (Transfermarkt).

The report suggests it’s likely Liverpool would demand a fee in the region of £12million for the ace, especially given how high his stock currently is.

Whilst many would like to see Phillips have an opportunity to remain part of Klopp’s plans, given the level of competition already in place and the signing of Ibrahima Konate, chances would be few and far between.

Having had a good taste of first-team football, the player himself will likely have ambitions of grandeur and a move could suit all parties.

Whatever happens this summer, Kopites everywhere will be forever grateful for Phillips’ efforts during a difficult 2020/21 season.
