Andy Brassell claims Liverpool target Houssem Aouar is ‘keen to leave’

Liverpool could still be busy in the final week of the transfer window as players continue to depart Anfield.

Following the sale of Xherdan Shaqiri to Olympique Lyon and Ben Woodburn’s loan switch to Hearts on Monday, the Reds have now allowed eight players to leave the club this summer.

Despite there seemingly being no rush to replace Shaqiri or Gini Wijnaldum before him, Liverpool continue to be linked with at least one new arrival before the deadline passes next Tuesday.

One name often touted as a Merseyside arrival is that of Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.

Speaking to talkSPORT (Monday, August 23, 1:50pm), European football expert Andy Brassell claimed Auoar is ‘keen to leave’ the Ligue 1 club.

Aouar is keen to leave, Lyon are keen to sell. They are not asking nearly as much as they were last year. Aouar has always been loved as an academy product but was on the end of some frustration after they blew a two-goal lead against Clermont. He’s received a lot of criticism and I think it’s likely to happen, there’s a will on all sides and if an acceptable offer is made, it’s gonna happen.

Capped on one occasion at senior level by France, the 23-year-old ace enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence as a fledgling teenager.

Described as ‘incredible’ by Pep Guardiola, Aouar scored seven and registered another eight assists during the 2018/19 campaign.

Valued at £37.8million and under contract until 2023 (Transfermarkt), the mooted £25million asking price would represent a bargain for the Reds.

Already in contact with the French club following the negotiations over Shaqiri, Jurgen Klopp would surely sanction a move for the attack-minded midfield star.

Aouar already has top-level Champions League experience and would be a ready-made option to bolster Klopp’s squad.
