Gary Neville hails ‘outstanding’ Harvey Elliott performance

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has been praising the impact of Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott

The 18-year-old was picked from the start for a second consecutive Premier League match on Saturday and impressed from the outset.

Backing up a stellar display against Burnley a week earlier, Elliott was unperturbed by the arrival of the current European Champions at Anfield.

Speaking on Sky Sports, a familiar foe on Merseyside, Neville, was full of admiration for the teenage attacking midfielder.

He was brilliant. He was confident, first few touches were outstanding and brought a bit of urgency to Liverpool through midfield. When he got on the ball I thought he brought a bit of impetus and a little bit something might happen. He looked to try and do something and take risks. A really good game, [his] second Premier League start and the first time I’ve seen him live. [It was a] fantastic performance.

Completing 87 per cent of passes, one key pass and taking 107 touches, Elliott earned a 7.20 Sofascore rating for the display.

Last season the playmaker, who has recently earned a call-up to the England Under 21 side, scored seven and provided 11 assists in 41 Championship outings whilst on loan at Blackburn Rovers.

Valued at £13.6million and under contract until 2026 on Merseyside (Transfermarkt), Elliott is coming of age in front of our very eyes in Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Perhaps a surprise inclusion on Saturday, Klopp clearly feels Elliott is ready to influence the side right now.

Already receiving plaudits from rivals as well as international recognition, Liverpool must feel they have a true potential great on their hands.

matchday.
