Virals: Alex Teixeira opens up on failed Liverpool transfer

Brazilian midfielder Alex Teixeira has opened up on a failed transfer to Liverpool over five years ago.

Now 31-years-old, the Reds were heavily linked with the ace whilst still a Shakhtar Donetsk player.

Despite strong reports suggesting the Anfield club were willing to meet the Ukrainian club’s demands, Teixeira ultimately headed to China to play for Jiangsu Suning.

Speaking to A Spor, as cited by Anfield Edition on Twitter, in the wake of a return to Europe with Besiktas, the Brazilian has revealed by the Merseyside switch failed to materialise.

The move to China brought about many raised eyebrows given the calibre of interest, something the ex-Brazil youth ace is all too aware of.

When I left Shakhtar it was advertised as if I had chosen the money over the Premier League. The Premier League is the best league in the world. Unfortunately, the negotiations with Liverpool had come to a dead-end and Liverpool gave up. While I was disappointed with this, the good offer came from China. The offer from China was one I couldn’t refuse. I made a completely rational decision.

Since the failed Liverpool move, Teixeira scored 73 times and provided 43 assists during a five-year spell in China.

Another case of what might’ve been.

The attacking midfielder joins an illustrious list of Liverpool nearly men, alongside Nabil Fekir, Yevhen Konoplyanka and Mario Gotze.

Having said that, the ensuing five years have been rather successful at Anfield, something Teixeira may well have enhanced of course, but may also have harmed.
