Liverpool were one of many clubs credited with holding an interest in Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic over the summer.
The 21-year-old frontman has been a revelation in Serie A since arriving from hometown club Partizan in 2018 for just £1.86million (Transfermarkt).
Vlahovic, who has drawn comparisons to Zlatan Ibrahimovic owing to his towering stature, has attracted interest from the Reds, Manchester City and Juventus previously.
Despite seemingly being close to extending a contract beyond its current 2023 expiry, club president Rocco Commisso has confirmed that negotiations have collapsed and no new deal with La Viola will be forthcoming.
Last season the 10-cap Serbia star scored 21 goals and provided two assists in 37 Serie A outings.
So far this term, Vlahovic has netted six times in eight appearances – earning an eye-catching 7.03 Sofascore rating in the process.

Signing a centre-forward has often been a topic on the lips of Kopites.
Having enjoyed the fruits of Roberto Firmino as a false nine of a prolonged period, Jurgen Klopp has seemingly been reticent to turn to a more recognised striker.
Perhaps a slight transformation from the style currently in place, Vlahovic does possess strong technical qualities as well as a dominant physical presence.
However, opportunities to sign a player of Vlahovic’s prowess and potential don’t present themselves too often and Liverpool would be wise to make their move.
Valued at £36million and in the final two years of a contract in Florence, the possibility of landing a major coup at a reduced price should appeal immensely to the Anfield club.
