Virals: Pep Lijnders delivers positive update on Liverpool injuries

Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has delivered a positive update regarding the injury situation within the squad.

The Dutch coach was taking the pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to face Preston North End in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

Lijnders confirmed James Milner will be out until after the next international break after damaging a hamstring in the 5-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

Luckily Naby’s foot was not on the ground. It’s just a bruise. We take it day by day but it’s looking better and better. Thiago is still not available but he progressing well. Brighton will be close, but probably not. Fabinho we will assess day by day, not ruled out for the weekend but ruled out for tomorrow.

None of the fitness doubts are likely to be risked for the clash at Deepdale as the likes of Conor Bradley, James Balagizi, Mateusz Musialowski and James Norris could all feature in a youthful-looking Reds’ side.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are unbeaten in all competitions this season and will be hopeful of continuing that record throughout this week.

The good news keeps coming in the main as it would appear both Keita and Fabinho are in line to play in the Premier League fixture with Brighton.

Milner’s absence will be a blow to the squad but the near return of Thiago should supplement the loss perfectly.

One man unlikely to play at Deepdale is Mohamed Salah as the Egyptian takes a well-deserved rest.

matchday.
