James Pearce tips 2022 departure for Liverpool starlet Neco Williams

Liverpool youngster Neco Williams is once again being tipped for a departure from Anfield in the near future.

The 20-year-old Welshman was linked with a move away last summer but remained a Red for the first half of the season at least.

Having remained very much the understudy to Trent Alexander-Arnold, Williams is still expected to seek pastures new in 2022.

That’s according to reputable journalist James Pearce for The Athletic, as cited by LFC Transfer Room on Twitter.

Pearce claims the 17-cap Wales ace will look to manufacture a move ‘in the next year or so’ in order to obtain more first-team opportunities.

So far this season Williams has provided two assists in six appearances across all competitions.

Another academy prospect Elijah Dixon-Bonner is also expected to be allowed to leave on loan during the January transfer window having made a senior debut against Preston North End in the Carabao Cup.

Valued at £7.2million and under contract at Anfield until 2025 (Transfermarkt), the club would be looking for around £10million for the Welshman.

Perhaps due to the strength of Alexander-Arnold’s grip on the right-back position, Williams has become a more versatile operator in recent months and could remain part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans for this season at least.

In the long-term, however, it would appear a move is inevitable as the Wrexham-born youngster rightly looks for regular first-team chances.
