Virals: Barcelona would ‘seriously consider’ offers for Liverpool target

Liverpool may have been handed a possible opportunity to pursue a deal for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

The Reds were recently reported to be ‘crazy to sign’ the 24-year-old and that notion could now be closer than ever.

According to a report from The Athletic, as cited by Anfield Edition on Twitter, Barcelona would ‘seriously consider’ offers for the Dutchman.

The report claims that it would take a ‘big offer’ to prise the 38-cap Holland ace out of the Catalan giants.

This season De Jong – hailed as ‘extraordinary’ by Xavi – has scored once and provided two assists in 23 appearances across all competitions.

Valued at £63million and under contract until 2026 at Camp Nou (Transfermarkt), Liverpool would certainly be in a record-breaking territory in order to land the midfielder.

With the likes of James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Thiago all playing a reduced role for various reasons, Jurgen Klopp is expected to strengthen the department in the near future.

Already an experienced operator at the top level following bright beginnings at Ajax before moving to Barca, De Jong would certainly be a ready-made addition to Klopp’s ranks.

Holding all the fundamental attributes required to become a key player for the Reds, the Anfield club should perhaps test the resolve of the financially struggling Catalans with a bid.

matchday.
