Virals: Liverpool set to welcome ‘excellent’ new signing Luis Diaz

Liverpool are set to welcome ‘excellent’ new signing Luis Diaz to the club following the conclusion of South American World Cup qualifiers.

The 25-year-old is believed to have ‘packed his things’ and travelled along on a charter flight to England to join up with the Reds.

That’s according to a report from RCN, as cited by Sport Witness on Twitter.

The report claims that the 33-cap Colombia star is en route to Merseyside having played all 90 minutes in a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Argentina.

Speaking ahead of the arrival of Diaz, Anfield legend Ian Rush told the club’s official website that the winger will add a much-needed depth to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

He’s an excellent signing. I was surprised myself, to tell you the truth, but I think it’s competition for places. For me, I think it’s good because it’s competition for places. We’ve got one hell of a forward line now, haven’t we? I think [competition] just makes you want to play better. You look at what he’s like in training and if you see if he’s excellent in training, you’ve got to up your own game as well. That’s what it’s all about.

Prior to completing a £37million switch (Sky Sports), Diaz had scored 16 times and provided six assists in 28 appearances for FC Porto this season.

Exciting times.

With both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in AFCON semi-final action over the next 48 hours, neither are likely to feature against Cardiff City this weekend.

That could leave space for Diaz and indeed Harvey Elliott to make an eagerly anticipated appearance for very different reasons.

Whether it’s this weekend or beyond, Liverpool fans, like Rush, can be very optimistic about the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign.

matchday.
