Former Premier League defender Rio Ferdinand has praised ‘world-class’ Liverpool ace Alisson.

The 29-year-old Brazilian was once again a key figure for the Reds as Jurgen Klopp’s side reached the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

Despite being beaten by a long-range stunner from Lautaro Martinez, Alisson was otherwise unbeatable as 10-man Inter Milan attempted in vain to level the tie.

Speaking on BT Sport, Ferdinand waxed lyrical about what the ex-Roma stopper has brought to Anfield.

I think a big factor in getting your hands on the silverware is the goalkeeper, having that confidence and that commanding figure behind you. No disrespect to the keepers that had been playing before him, but this is a world-class operator.

So far this season Alisson has kept 18 clean sheets in 26 appearances across all competitions – earning an impressive 7.11 average Sofascore rating in the Premier League.

What a signing.

For a while, it seemed as though Liverpool under Klopp were about to break back into the big time, but certain positions were holding them back.

Following the attempts of Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet, it became apparent a big money purchase was neccessary to solve the ‘keeper issue once and for all.

Alisson’s £67million arrival (Sky Sports), coupled with the signing of Virgil van Dijk has taken the Anfield club back to where it belongs, amongst the upper echelons of every competition.
