Liverpool have a lot of work to do in the summer transfer window as Andoni Iraola aims to imprint his philosophy at the club.
Victor Munoz has already been drafted in as an attacking reinforcement, with the Spanish international joining the club from Osasuna.
However, the Reds need more bodies in attack as Mohamed Salah has left the club and Federico Chiesa’s future is uncertain, while Hugo Ekitike is still a few months away from returning to full fitness.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup has produced a few breakout stars who could secure moves this summer.
And now, if reports from Spain are to be believed, the Reds are preparing a move for Haissem Hassan, who made a massive impression for Egypt.
Liverpool accelerate Haissem Hassan pursuit
Led by Salah, Egypt defied the odds at the World Cup as they made it through to the knockout stages for the first time.
And while Salah was obviously their star attraction, Hassan quickly emerged as one of the most exciting players to watch in the competition.
According to El Gol Digital, Liverpool are preparing a move for the 24-year-old, whose side, Real Oviedo, were relegated from LaLiga last season.
He has a release clause of around €12 million, but the Reds are reportedly looking to take advantage of Oviedo’s relegation to get him for a lower price.
The report also mentions interest from Celtic, who are willing to pay around €8m to secure his signature this summer.
Oviedo believe Hassam’s World Cup performances mean interested teams will need to trigger his release clause at the very least to secure his signature, pouring cold water over claims that they will accept a lower offer.
Liverpool need to aim higher
Honestly, if a decision were to be made just based on the World Cup, then Hassan would obviously emerge as an obvious option.
He was virtually unplayable in the second half vs Argentina before being subbed off and is one of the best dribblers in Spain.
However, he has just six senior caps for Egypt and his end product is nowhere close to being good enough to warrant a spot in Liverpool’s squad, let alone their starting XI.
Liverpool have a Salah-shaped hole in their squad and need to replace their Egyptian king with a bonafide superstar who can deliver the end product.
The idea of another Egyptian player on the wing is obviously a romantic angle for the Reds, but they need to aim higher to become a force to be reckoned with again.
Hassan certainly enhanced his reputation at the World Cup this summer and will likely get a bigger move, but we’d be very surprised if he makes a switch to Anfield.
