‘Great player’ – Alexis Mac Allister raves about Liverpool transfer target

Gilberto Mora made a massive impression for Mexico during their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign and has emerged as one of the most wanted youngsters in world football.

We wrote on Read Liverpool that the Reds are one of the clubs interested in Mora, who currently plies his trade with Club Tijuana.

Mexico are out of the World Cup after losing 3-2 to England in the Round of 16, so a potential transfer for the youngster could well accelerate in the coming weeks.

And now, Alexis Mac Allister has heaped praise on the Mexican as talks of a potential transfer continue to heat up.

Mac Allister lauds Gilberto Mora

Mac Allister is one of few Liverpool players still at the World Cup as Argentina prepare to take on England in the semis.

And after the defending champions got the better of Switzerland in the quarterfinals – a game in which the Liverpool midfielder scored a goal – he was asked directly about Liverpool’s links with Mora.

“Honestly, I didn’t see anything about it,” began Mac Allister via Claro Sports.

“When these things happen, you’re always careful what you say, out of respect for the player and the club he belongs to.”

“But if he’s being linked with Liverpool, he’ll surely be a great player, and there’s a reason they’re mentioning him.”

Mora one for Liverpool’s future

Aside from Liverpool, Mora is wanted by several clubs across Europe.

He didn’t get his name on the scoresheet at the World Cup but played a starring role for Mexico at the 2025 U-20 World Cup, notching up three goals and two assists in the competition.

Primarily an attacking midfielder, Mora’s maturity belies his age, and his attacking flair was evident to everyone, earning praise from Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, among others.

However, it is important to note that Mora can only move to Liverpool after he turns 18, indicating that this is one for the future.

He is still a rough diamond and needs a lot of time and patience to play senior football in England, but his talent is there for everyone to see.

The Reds have positioned themselves for the attacking midfielder, but time will tell if they actually make a move for him.

Mexican journalist Rodrigo Lara believes Mora is destined for a move to the Premier League, so maybe this one has legs after all.
