Liverpool have a lot of work to do in the transfer market as the 2026-27 Premier League season edges closer to kicking off.
The Reds are in the market for an attacker to replace Mohamed Salah and have been linked with a handful of players in that position.
Yesterday, reports from England confirmed that Liverpool made an enquiry to sign Maghnes Akliouche, who has been locked in talks to sign for PSG.
And now, Fabrizio Romano has provided some clarity on the situation.
Liverpool yet to hijack Maghnes Akliouche’s PSG move
Akliouche has been in talks to sign for PSG for well over a month now and was part of France’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he would have rubbed shoulders with PSG players such as Bradley Barcola and Desire Doue.
Yesterday, there were also suggestions that Akliouche is learning English and is open to a move to the Premier League, offering fresh hope to Liverpool.
Romano, however, believes PSG are still favourites for his signature, adding that Liverpool are yet to make a concrete move for him despite their initial enquiry.
“Many questions on Maghnes Akliouche and Liverpool but at the moment I maintain my information,” said Romano on his YouTube channel.
“Akliouche is in negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain. There is an agreement on personal terms and talks are underway between Monaco and PSG. If there is a hijack, I will let you know, but at the moment the feeling is PSG are leading the race.
“As I will let you know on Barcola because I maintain my position. Remember what I keep telling you about Barcola/Liverpool.”
The last paragraph is telling, as the Italian transfer guru has once again made it very clear that the Reds want Barcola this summer.
Akliouche seems to be headed to Paris, but if he joins Luis Enrique’s side, will they sanction a move for Barcola? This is a transfer merry-go-round that is well worth following, that’s for sure.
