Liverpool players are paying tribute to Mohamed Salah on social media after the Egyptian announced his decision to leave Anfield this summer.
The 33-year-old is ending his stint at the club after nine years and leaving on a free transfer.
The Reds announced that the winger wished to announce his decision at the earliest possible stage after reaching an agreement with the club. He posted on social media, along with the club, and the posts were flooded with comments from players – past and present – along with the fans.
Florian Wirtz, Curtis Jones, Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley, Endo Wataru, Alexis Mac Allister, and Rio Ngumoha were among the current players who posted emojis in the comments section. Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Andy Robertson also joined in soon after, while Hugo Ekitike chimed in with a ‘The One. Thanks Abdul’ in the comments, before adding ‘The best’ on X (formerly Twitter).
Meanwhile, former players like James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were also hailing Salah as the king by posting crown emojis in the comments. Reds legend Ian Rush thanked the Egyptian for his contribution, while Steven Gerrard posted a heart emoji.
Cody Gakpo and Andy Robertson post heartfelt message for Mohamed Salah
Cody Gakpo was among the first to take to Instagram to send a heartfelt message for the Egyptian King, thanking him for setting the standards on and off the pitch.
“Grateful to have shared the pitch with you @mosalah. Thank you for everything – not just for what you did on the pitch, but for the example you set every single day. A great player and a true legend, I’ve got nothing but respect for you. Wishing you only the best for what’s next 🙏🏾.”
Andy Robertson also had a lengthy message for Salah, hailing him for his mentality, and posted:
“Mohamed, Thank you. 9 of the best years of our lives with amazing memories on and off the pitch. Watching you become the best at what you do and become one of the best to ever have worn the Liverpool shirt has been a joy to watch and be part of.”
“Your mentality is second to none and a lot of people could take note. You have pushed yourself every single day and always demanded more from yourself and others. A pleasure sharing the pitch with you for so long but even more so being able to call you a friend. You deserve a send off that reflects your status at LFC – the greatest. Second to none.”
Robertson remains the player Salah has played the most games with on the pitch, with 338 matches. Virgil van Dijk comes second with 327, while former Arsenal star Mohamed Elneny is the only non-Liverpool player in the list, having played with the winger at El Mokawloon and FC Basel, and sharing the dressing room with him at the Egyptian U20, U23, and senior levels.
Joe Gomez sends heartwarming message to Liverpool legend
Joe Gomez was also among those who posted on social media for Salah, claiming that his numbers will forever make him a legend and cement his legacy in the club’s history. He posted:
“One of the greatest to ever wear the shirt. It’s been a pleasure having the countless hours watching your greatness first hand in so many ways. Everyone knows about your mentality and work ethic — the numbers just cement your legacy forever. Thank you for everything you’ve done for us. I’ll always be grateful for our friendship over all these years ❤️ Can’t wait to see you celebrated until the very end 👑”
Salah has played 435 matches for the Reds so far, scoring 255 goals. He has won the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League once during his nine-year stint at Anfield.
The “life after Salah” era is coming, but for the next two months, the Salah era isn’t over yet.
The bond between the current squad and their record-breaking No. 11 has never been tighter, and there is a palpable sense that this group is determined to finish on a high.
Winning the Champions League would be the poetic conclusion this story deserves a golden goodbye for a player who redefined what it meant to be a Liverpool forward.
As the countdown begins, the mission is simple: cherish every minute of Salah in red and turn the final whistle of the season into a celebration of a historic legacy.
