Liverpool suffer Sturridge blow

Daniel Sturridge has been ruled out of Liverpool’s trip to face Manchester United, according to the Mirror.

The Reds were hoping Sturridge would be back to full fitness for the clash at Old Trafford but the injury-prone hitman is yet to return to first-team training.

The former Chelsea and Manchester City star has been doing some individual work at Melwood as he looks to recover from a hip injury, but he is still unable to train with his team mates.

The England international was blighted by injuries last season and his problems are still affecting him in the current campaign.

It was reported by the Mirror in May that some at the club were fearing that he wouldn’t return to action until November.

But they now claim that if Sturridge makes enough progress this week he will return to full training after the international break and could be available in October.

The Sturridge news comes just days after Phillippe Coutinho was sent off during Liverpool’s 3-0 loss to West Ham at Anfield.

With Coutinho suspended and Sturridge ruled out, the Reds’ chances at Old Trafford are bleaker than they perhaps could have been.
