Alberto Moreno wanted by Atletico Madrid

Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno is wanted by Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, according to reports in Italy.

The Spanish left-back, who signed for the Reds from Sevilla, has only played twice in the Premier League this season. Something which is concerning considering that the full-back position was open for a period of time after injuries plagued the squad.

With his contract up for renewal in June, it is thought that the Spaniard will leave the club on a free transfer.

Moreno has been openly critical of his time at Liverpool and more so Klopp’s “favouritism” of Scotland-captain Andy Robertson.

Speaking to a Spanish radio programme, the left-back said that he didn’t like “the way Klopp favoured Robertson” and thought that he “deserved another chance” when he returned from injury earlier this season.

Rumours circulated about a potential move in the January window, but nothing came of it and it seems that Atletico Madrid have expressed their interest in signing the Spaniard on a free.

It seems that Moreno would welcome the change, saying:

I’ve always wanted to return to Spain one day, and if I’m being honest, I’m a bit fed up of the cold weather here now.

Both of Diego Simeone’s left-backs are out of action, with Filipe Luis picking up an injury against Real Sociedad and Lucas Hernandez returning to training after the international break. Midfielder Saul Níguez stepped into the role in their last game against Athletic Bilbao, where they lost 2-0.

No stranger to Spanish football, ex-Sevilla man Moreno would transition well into La Liga and it seems the deal would work for all parties.

Liverpool fans will certainly not be too heartbroken to see Moreno depart.

matchday.
