Alexander Isak linked with shock Liverpool departure as market value dips

It’s safe to say Alexander Isak’s first season at Liverpool didn’t go as planned after his Premier League-record move from Newcastle United last summer.

And now, after spending just one season at Anfield, Mundo Deportivo claim the Swedish international is a target for Barcelona.

Isak took his time to get going, and once he finally did, he suffered an injury against Tottenham Hotspur in late December that kept him out for five months.

He is now fit and firing and featured in every game for Sweden at the FIFA World Cup.

And reports from Spain suggest Barcelona and keeping a close eye on him as they look to sign a striker to replace Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona want to sign Alexander Isak

Lewandowski has officially signed for Chicago Fire as he called time on his successful stint at the Camp Nou earlier this summer.

In response, Barcelona made an approach to sign Harry Kane, but Bayern Munich swiftly shut the door on a transfer, with the England captain now set to renew his deal at the Allianz Arena.

The Catalan giants are also interested in Julian Alvarez and the saga is playing out publicly, with Atletico Madrid standing their ground firmly.

According to the aforementioned report, Barcelona are keeping tabs on Isak as a potential attacking signing as they look to add a top-class striker to their squad.

It has also been mentioned that the Swedish striker’s value has dipped over the past 12 months owing to his struggles in front of goal and his injury record.

Barcelona watched Isak play at the World Cup and will be well aware of the player, who represented Real Sociedad in Spain before moving to England.

An absolute non-starter for Liverpool

No. Just no. We get it, Isak’s first season at the club was hardly special.

But there is no chance the Reds agree to part with someone a year after breaking the bank to secure his signature from Newcastle.

Andoni Iraola’s arrival means every player in the squad has a clean slate and will be assessed in pre-season before making a decision.

As for Isak, he is one of the best strikers in the world when fit and firing. And to be fair to him, he has worked hard to prove his fitness after a cruel injury and looked top class for Sweden at the World Cup despite scoring just once.

All in all, this seems like another reach from the Spanish media. They are aware of Barcelona’s need for a striker and have seemingly fabricated a story as they are currently being frustrated in their efforts to sign Alvarez.

Even if they were to approach Liverpool, the overwhelming response would be that Isak isn’t for sale at any price. And judging by how the player himself as spoken, he is more than happy and settled at Merseyside.
