Liverpool and Arsenal are prepared to go head-to-head to sign one of the most intriguing defensive profiles in world football this summer.
Caught Offside report that both Premier League sides are keeping a close eye on Borussia Dortmund’s Daniel Svensson, whose value has soared in recent seasons owing to his performances for club and country.
The Reds remain on the lookout for market opportunities to bolster their ranks across the pitch as Andoni Iraola aims to stamp his authority at Anfield.
And it appears as if Svensson is a player who has emerged as a versatile squad option for them.
Liverpool have concrete plan to sign Daniel Svensson
Primarily a left-back, the Swedish international can also play as a left-wing back and in central midfield.
According to the aforementioned report, Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in signing the 23-year-old this summer, with the Reds having a ‘concrete’ plan to secure his signing ahead of the Gunners.
Svensson was initially valued at around €40m, but growing interest from some of the world’s biggest clubs means he is likely to cost around €50m.
Dortmund signed him permanently from Nordsjælland in the summer of 2025 and the player is tied down at the club until 2029, putting them in a fantastic position to command a huge fee.
The report also mentions interest from AC Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid, although Svensson’s strongest suitors are from the Premier League.
Svensson described as a unique player
Dortmund manager Niko Kovac heaped praise on his development last season, describing him as one of the smartest players he has worked with.
“Daniel is someone who can play both positions, both at left-back and in the six,” said Kovac via Dortmund’s official website.
“That gives us flexibility, which we take advantage of. He’s also good for us at set pieces. It’s always good to have the option of deliveries from different feet at set pieces.”
“Daniel is a running wonder. I’ve never seen anyone run as much as he does. Even in the sauna-like temperatures in America, Svensson delivered. His work rate is unique and that gives us a certain security at the front and at the back.”
Liverpool don’t really need a left-back as Milos Kerkez is sorted for the long haul, with Kostas Tsimikas set to deputise for him.
However, there is always room in the squad for a versatile player like Svensson, who can adapt quickly to multiple positions and systems.
However, unless he comes cheap, this doesn’t seem like the kind of deal that will be a priority for Liverpool this summer.
