With the 2026 FIFA World Cup now out of the way, Liverpool are expected to push ahead with transfers ahead of the forthcoming Premier League season.
The Reds have already signed Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet, but it goes without saying that they need more players in the coming weeks.
Andoni Iraola has confirmed that Liverpool will be active in the transfer market as their current squad isn’t capable of competing on all fronts.
And while players who can walk straight into the first team will be prioritised, the Reds are now close to completing the third signing of the Iraola era in the form of Colombian wonderkid Samuel Martinez.

We reported on Read Liverpool earlier this summer that the Reds hold a strong interest in Martinez, who has made a massive impression in his home country.
Martinez is an attacking midfielder and is yet to make his senior debut for Colombia. However, he has stormed through the age group sides and has also become an important player for his club Atletico Nacional.
Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra is well known to the Liverpool community as he was the go-to man for all the news about Luis Diaz during his stint at Anfield.
And now, it appears as if his compatriot is on his way to Anfield.
Sierra confirms that Martinez travelled to the UK over the weekend to complete his ‘historic’ move to Liverpool, after which he will return to his club and only move to Anfield when he turns 18.
As seen above, pictures have emerged of the 17-year-old travelling to England with his agent, which is proof that a transfer isn’t that far away from being officially completed if everything goes as planned with his medical.
Liverpool planning for the future
Signing ready-made, first-team players is the need of the hour for Liverpool and it goes without saying that we will see some movement in this regard shortly.
However, young players like this can be worth their weight in gold if the Reds manage to cut out the middlemen and snap them up early.
And that is exactly what they appear to have done with Martinez. Some of the biggest clubs in Europe like Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham Hotspur were vying for his signature, but the Reds seem to have won the race.
Martinez has also drawn comparisons with Brazilian great Kaka for his style of play, which is no small feat for a player who is yet to make his senior debut for his national team.
