Alisson says Liverpool are capable of winning the double

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker believes the Reds can, and will, challenge for both the Champions League and the Premier League, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Brazilian also piled the praise onto his back four and hailed them as a key part as to why he is on course to win the Golden Glove this season.

In his debut season, Alisson has kept 17 clean sheets and conceded just 19 in 32 league matches, topping the leaderboards and making him favourite for the end of season Golden Glove.

The 26-year-old also spoke of Virgil van Dijk’s importance to the team.

It is great playing with him. He is a very important player for our team and the way he plays gives consistency for us, defending high balls, corners and set pieces.

The shot-stopper believes that the Reds’ solid defence is a large part of why they are in the title race.

When you start from the back with good quality, the ball goes to the front players with better quality and puts the strikers in a better position.

I have a big protection in front of me in Virgil and Joel (Matip) and the other defenders like Dejan (Lovren) and the full-backs have been very important too.

Alisson also hinted that the lack of egos in the Liverpool dressing room has led them to the title race.

Some players only look to themselves and can be selfish in only focusing on their own interests. At this club I don’t see that, I see everyone looking for the same goal and working to achieve it.

The goalkeeper showed how ambitious the team is at the moment, saying they want to win everything.

We have our goals and we are fighting for them – to win the league and everything we are playing in, the Champions League too.

We can’t choose what we go for – if we could we would choose both! They are two big competitions and of course it has been a long time since Liverpool have won the Premier League, but we will fight for both.

matchday.
