Arne Slot has hit out at Crystal Palace defender Daniel Muñoz after he scored against Liverpool while goalkeeper Freddie Woodman was down injured.

The Reds were 2-0 up in the second half as Crystal Palace attacked, trying to get back into the game. The Eagles had Ismaila Sarr slip past the Reds’ defence, drifting into the box and shooting from the right.

However, goalkeeper Woodman was quick to react and closed him down, saving the winger’s attempt. The ball bounced off to Muñoz, who was outside the box, and the goalkeeper went down injured straightaway after hurting his right knee.

The Palace defender made the most of the situation and chipped the ball into the empty net. It turned out to be the lone goal for the away side in the game, and the Reds ran out 3-1 winners with Florian Wirtz getting on the scoresheet in the final seconds of the match.

Slot was not happy with Muñoz’s decision to score while the Liverpool goalkeeper was down. The Reds’ head coach went on a passionate rant after the match, calling out the Crystal Palace star for his actions.

The Dutchman was also furious with the referee, saying the official should have made a call when he saw the goalkeeper down and injured. He said:

“The way we conceded was not as expected. Is there a game we’ve played where there isn’t a talking point about a referee’s decision? The amount of times I’ve played a game when we’ve been in a promising position and a player is on the floor and the referee has blown his whistle, I cannot even count, and for simulation. We’ve showed we are a fair team. We don’t go to the floor if nothing is wrong.”

“That happened against Man Utd when Macca (Alexis Mac Allister) was on the floor and Michael Oliver kept on playing and we conceded a goal. Macca had five or six stitches afterwards. I find it hard that referees don’t go into the game knowing we are not a team that pretends we are injured. If we’re on the floor something serious has happened. I don’t blame them (Palace). The referee should stop the game.”

Woodman went on to finish the match, but it did look like he was injured badly and needed to be substituted. Ármin Pécsi was ready on the bench and had warmed up to come on if needed, but the 29-year-old continued in goal.
