Arsenal and Chelsea join the race for Jasper Cillessen

According to Extra.ie Sport, Arsenal and Chelsea are looking to hijack Liverpool’s possible move for Barcelona shot-stopper, Jasper Cillessen.

After Loris Karius’ disastrous Champions League final display, Liverpool are looking to sign a new number one, to replace both him and Simon Mignolet.

Liverpool were targeting Alisson from Roma but with Mohamed Salah joining Liverpool for just €38m last summer, the Italian outfit are adding ‘Salah tax’ to all transfer proceedings with the Reds.

However, Liverpool are not the only club with goalkeeping problems. Petr Cech’s up and down form cost the Gunners last season and as such, they too are said to be interested in Cillessen.

Chelsea are also being linked with a move for the Barca number two as speculation about Thibaut Courtois’ future mounts as he’s yet to sign a new contract with the club.

Cillessen is surplus to requirements at Barcelona, with Marc-Andre Ter Stegen continuing to perform well for the La Liga champions.

The Dutchman has admitted that he will consider a move to a top club in order to get regular first-team action so a move to Arsenal could be on the cards.
