“Benitez has made it clear he wants to go back to Liverpool” – Nicol

Rafa Benitez has made it clear he wants to go back to Liverpool, according to ex-Reds defender Steve Nicol.

Nicol, speaking on the Talksport radio station, said that Benitez wants to go back to Liverpool:

“He’s been there before, knows the history of the club and would love to be the guy who could take it back to a better place.”

However, Nicol said that he doesn’t think the Spaniard is the right man for the job.

“I’ll be honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of the way Liverpool played under Rafa.”

“Every player that ever stepped on Anfield was scared to death they were going to get the life squeezed out of them, from the moment the game kicked off. I’m not a huge fan of watching a Liverpool side playing counter-attacking football.”

Nicol, who played 468 games for Liverpool, outlined how he’d like to see the Reds play:

“In my eyes the way Rodgers had Liverpool playing last season was a Liverpool team.”
