Danny Murphy isn’t alone – Liverpool fans share this Arne Slot view

Share
  • Danny Murphy has hit the nail on the head regarding Arne Slot’s future at Liverpool
  • He voiced his opinion live on air on talkSPORT
  • He is not alone, as Reds fans have agreed with him in unison

Former Liverpool player Danny Murphy was right on the money with his assessment of Arne Slot, as evidenced by the number of Liverpool fans supporting him.

With only five games left to play, the Reds appear to be in a strong position to clinch a top-five finish in the Premier League and qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

However, that is not enough to paper over the cracks, considering the Anfield outfit’s struggled in all domestic and European competitions this season.

Despite increasing shouts for Slot to be sacked as the head coach, the Liverpool hierarchy continues to support Slot with a second season in charge looking increasingly likely Danny Murphy has issued a blunt warning to the club’s board.

Liverpool won’t challenge for title under Slot – Murphy

Addressing the concerns at Anfield, Murphy claimed that there is an increasing feeling that the Dutchman has lost the dressing room.

He is of the view that many players are no longer listening to the head coach, and pointed out that there is no turning back from such a situation.

The midfielder-turned-pundit added that he does not see the Merseyside-based club challenging for the title under Slot’s tutelage next season.

Speaking on talkSPORT Murphy said: “From a footballing perspective, if you look at how bad Liverpool have been, the amount of games they’ve lost, there is a feeling that they [the players] are not hearing him [Slot].

“Very hard to get that back once it’s gone. I don’t see them becoming title contenders again next season if he stays.”

Murphy also suggested that Liverpool benefited from Jurgen Klopp’s playing style in their Premier League triumph last season.

He is of the view that the six-time European champions are better off hiring a coach who would be able to implement a playing style similar to Klopp’s

He added: “They’d have more chance to go back to the type of football that Liverpool fans want [under a new manager] because I don’t think he’s going to do it – that high energy, high press type of football.

“It was a mixture [last season], it was still more Klopp-like because they had [Luis] Diaz, they had [Darwin] Nunez. They were still a pressing side.

“What they did really well under him, and he [Slot] deserves great credit for it, is that they managed games well and were more composed at times and played a more possession-based football, but there was still an element of Klopp’s football last season.”

Reds fans agree with Murphy – “Someone with a spine”

Murphy’s comments have unsurprisingly garnered a lot of support from Liverpool fans, who have grown frustrated with Slot and his playing style.

One supporter is happy that “someone with a spine” is finally speaking up against the hierarchy’s decision to back Slot, hailing him as an “absolute legend” in the process.

Another fan opined that the Englishman is the only Liverpool pundit “telling the truth”.

One fan is worried that the Dutch tactician is going to become another Brendan Rodgers, urging Fenway Sports Group, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes to make a change before it is too late.

Not everyone agrees, though, as evident from some of the posts on X (Formerly Twitter)

ReadLiverpoolFC verdict: Fans cannot be blamed for wanting Slot sacked

There is no doubt that Slot has a lot of credit in his account after leading Liverpool to the title in his very first season in charge.

However, patience is running thin, and fans cannot be blamed for wanting him gone, especially considering the brand of football on display at Anfield at the moment.

That said, there are no signs that the Reds hierarchy intend to pull the plug on the former Feyenoord boss this summer.

The likes of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and perhaps even Alisson leaving the club at the end of the season suggest that Slot is expected to continue in his role as the head coach next season.
