‘Failed Galacticos’ – Liverpool fans will be enraged after Jamie Carragher’s comments

Once again, Jamie Carragher has made some bewildering claims about Liverpool after their lukewarm start to the new season under Andoni Iraola.

The Reds are unbeaten under the Spaniard but have won just one Premier League game so far, which has emerged as a cause for concern.

In the summer, Bradley Barcola was Liverpool’s headline capture from PSG for a fee believed to be in the region of £120m.

And now, after also having signed Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz last summer for huge fees, Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool are in the midst of their ‘failed Galacticos’ era.

Jamie Carragher makes grim Liverpool claim

“As things stand, we are in the midst of Anfield’s failed galácticos era,” wrote the former Liverpool defender for The Telegraph.

“For Liverpool to become the first club in the world to field three £100m footballers is bewildering. To me, it was wrong.

“The foundation of the club’s success has been signing those with the talent and hunger to become Premier League and world stars after their arrival.

“Spending record fees on those who already have that reputation did not sit well with me a year ago.

“Nothing has changed my mind. Whatever Iraola achieves, no one will convince me that Liverpool have executed a well-conceived plan.”

Players have started to command ridiculous fees, but the only way to remain competitive is to pay top dollar for the best talents and that’s exactly what Liverpool went for with Wirtz, Isak and Barcola.

The latter is still new and will be given enough time to make his mark at Anfield. For Wirtz and Isak, however, they need to deliver the goods soon after enduring sobering debut seasons at the club.
