Liverpool went into the international break on a positive note after securing a hard-fought Premier League win against Bournemouth.
It wasn’t an easy game for the Reds at Andoni Iraola’s old hunting ground, but they came out on top thanks to a close-range finish from Alexander Isak in the second half.
Florian Wirtz was credited with an assist for the goal. His intended backheel didn’t come off, but the ball fell kindly to Isak, who did the rest to give his side the lead.
And after the game, a lot was said about the German international, who continues to blow hot and cold at Anfield.
And now, Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has lavished praise on Wirtz in what should come as an important message to all his doubters.
Luis de la Fuente praises Florian Wirtz
The Spain boss was asked by SPORTBILD whether there is a German player he would like to have on his team, to which he responded without hesitation.
“Florian Wirtz – he is fantastic. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a Spanish passport [laughs]. I really like the way he plays.”
Wirtz has had his fair share of struggles since swapping Germany for England, but his quality is obvious.
Iraola clearly wants to play with a No.10 and that role suits him perfectly, so Liverpool need to give him all the time in the world to come good.
Having Jurgen Klopp in charge of Germany is another big boost for the 22-year-old, who will look to make it count to deliver the goods at Anfield during the ongoing season.
