Liverpool and Fiorentina are in talks regarding the transfer of Fabio Borini, according to Sky Sports.
The striker made 18 appearances across all competitions this past season for the Reds and managed a meagre one goal.
Borini has seen himself fall down the pecking order at Anfield with the arrivals of Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino, and Danny Ings this summer and the return of Divock Origi from his loan spell at Lille.
Fiorentina recently loaned out German forward Mario Gomez to Turkish side Besiktas and have been searching for someone to fill the gap left by the former Bayern Munich star and believe Borini could be their man.
It should also be noted that the Viola are looking to secure the player on a permanent basis rather than a loan.
The former Swansea forward turned down moves to Sunderland and QPR last summer in order to fight for his place in the Liverpool first team.
His agent, Marco De Marchi, has previously been quoted as saying that his client feels like “a lion in a cage” at Anfield.
Speaking to Italian publication Corriere Dello Sport in June, De Marchi discussed Borini’s likely destination:
“He has no preference; he just wants a team that gives him a clear chance to prove himself. Right now he feels like a lion in a cage.”
Borini has experience of the Serie A after he spent a season on loan at Roma in 2011/12 while he was a Chelsea player.
