Florian Wirtz was the star of the show for Germany as they secured a 2-0 win against Serbia.
The 22-year-old notched up a goal and an assist and produced his best performance of the season.
Jurgen Klopp heaped praise on Wirtz after the game and greeted him with a typical trademark hug at the full-time whistle.
And now, the former Bayer Leverkusen man has appeared to suggest Germany play more to his strengths as opposed to what is the case with Liverpool.
Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz speaks after starring for Germany
“The players around me made things a lot easier for me today,” said the German international after the game.
“There was so much movement around me and when I have that, it becomes much easier for me to shine.”
Wirtz also claimed his conversations with Klopp helped him produce a match-winning display for Germany as he stuck to his guns and focused on his football.
“We definitely had one or two conversations, and he gave me a few things that I definitely take with me and try to implement. I’m glad he’s talking to me.”
“He wants me to play the football you are used to from me again.”
We all know Klopp has his own way of motivating players that most managers don’t.
That said, Wirtz has clearly admitted that his teammates’ movement made him flourish, so maybe Andoni Iraola can take a leaf out of Klopp’s playbook to get the best out of the German.
