Gary Neville lauds Roberto Firmino during combined XI discussion

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has been lauding Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino

Ahead of the clash between United and the Reds on Sunday, Neville and Jamie Carragher were picking their combined XIs from the two squads.

Following a Firmino hat-trick against Watford, the 30-year-old Brazilian was included and the often-controversial pundit had plenty of praise for the ace on Monday Night Football

I refuse to disrespect Firmino. The work in possession and out of possession that he does on behalf of the team is unbelievable. But I don’t believe that he ever really gets the full respect that he deserves for his performances and how he dovetails with the midfield, how he dovetails with the two wide players, how he fills back in big games.

Neville picked nine Liverpool players in his own combined lineup, opting for Firmino ahead of talismanic Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

So far this season the 55-cap ace has scored six goals and registered one assist in seven appearances across all competitions.

Firmino has regularly been a top performer for the Reds and is deserving of a place in any Premier League side.

Albeit a surprise to see someone so associated with arch-rivals opt for so many Liverpool players, on current form, and indeed history, any other side would’ve been wholly biased.

Too often an unhappy hunting ground for Jurgen Klopp’s side, this current crop will be hopeful of turning their superiority into victory at Old Trafford on Sunday.

matchday.
