Hazard names Van Dijk as toughest opponent he has faced

New Real Madrid man Eden Hazard has hailed Virgil van Dijk as the toughest player he has come up against.

The Belgium international completed a £90million transfer from Chelsea to Los Blancos earlier this summer, and will make his bow for the club when they face Bayern Munich on Saturday.

The 27-year old has long wished for a transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu, and he will now finally get the chance to live out his dream when he walks out wearing the club’s famous white jersey.

However, leaving the Premier League meant leaving behind some formidable foes, as Hazard revealed in an interview with Jay Shetty. Despite saying that no one player “scares” Hazard, he admitted that Van Dijk, in particular during the previous season, was tough to play against. Hazard said:

In the Premier League, we have a lot of good defenders – especially this season, [Virgil] van Dijk was on fire.

That’s why he got PFA Player of the Year, I think.

He’s really good, he’s strong. I remember when we played away against Liverpool and I was striker, I tried to jump against him and I fell. No chance.

Van Dijk was one of the leading figures for Liverpool last season in a campaign where the club won the Champions League title.
