Ronald Araujo has quickly become a bit of a cult hero for Liverpool after his loan move from Barcelona.
The Uruguayan has predominantly featured as a right-back due to injuries to Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley and has impressed in an unfamiliar role.
Araujo has already scored two goals for the club – both in the UEFA Champions League – most recently netting in the 4-3 comeback win against Villarreal.
Speaking to Paul Joyce ahead of the clash against Brighton, the experienced defender has opened up on a rather amusing conversation he had with former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.
Ronald Araujo makes hilarious Liverpool admission
Nunez was a polarising figure at Anfield due to his inconsistencies in front of goal.
However, he wore his heart on his sleeve and was loved by the Liverpool faithful for his tireless performances.
Araujo and Nunez know each other quite well, having played together for the national team.
And after his goal vs Villarreal, the Barcelona loanee claims Nunez asked him if he would score more goals than him at Anfield, which goes to show just how close the two are.
“I speak to Darwin [Nunez] a lot,” said Araujo via The Times.
“We’re great friends. He congratulated me after my goal against Villarreal the other day. He asked me if I was going to score more goals than him [at Liverpool]!”
We’re not sure about the goals, but if Araujo carries on in the same vein at right back, the Anfield faithful will be more than happy to keep him at the club for the long haul.
