Herbie Kane set to miss rest of season with groin injury

Promising Liverpool midfielder Herbie Kane could miss the rest of the season after suffering a devastating training injury.

Kane, currently enjoying a loan spell at promotion-chasing League One side Doncaster Rovers, missed Saturday’s loss at Luton Town after injuring his groin in training.

After full-time, manager Grant McCann confirmed fears that Kane could miss the rest of the race for promotion with a serious groin problem:

Herbie will be out for about six weeks. Herbie has done a different part of his groin. He’s got a 10cm tear in his groin.

The 20-year-old signed a new deal with Liverpool in December and has been crucial to Doncaster’s season so far, netting seven goals and providing nine assists in 41 appearances.

With that 4-0 defeat at league leaders Luton on Saturday, the Rovers inevitably dropped out of the play-off positions as their winless run in the league extended to seven matches.

The Yorkshire side still sit two points off sixth with a game in hand though, and although Kane could be back for the play-offs, he’ll have to watch his team fight to get there from the sidelines.
