Inter Milan hoping to tie £58.5m midfield ace to new contract amid burning Liverpool interest

The Euro 2020 tournament has produced some incredible football and propelled a number of players into stardom.

With England and Italy set to face off in the final, plenty of players’ stock has shot up throughout the month.

Not only this, but with Liverpool reportedly seeking a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, the rumours are flowing.

An abundance of talent has already been linked with the club, such as Youri Tielemans and Renato Sanches.

However, one midfield maestro that has been previously linked with the Reds has entered the forefront again.

Italy and Inter Milan midfielder Nicolò Barella has been one of the stars of the tournament so far.

The 24-year-old has been a regular in Roberto Mancini’s midfield, with the Reds heavily interested in his services.

Amid Liverpool’s burning interest, it is being reported by Sports Mole that Inter are trying to tie Barella down with a new contract.

It is understandable that the Serie A club would want to keep hold of their prized asset after their title-winning season and his impressive performances for the Azzurri.

Inter appear to be making some key promises too, with a salary increase for the midfielder and the promise of the captain’s armband in the future.

Of course, such extremities cannot be guaranteed by Liverpool, and with a market value of £58.5m, he won’t come cheap.

The club are already having to rely on player sales this summer to fuel their transfer activity.

With Inter unwilling to let Barella go, he would come with a huge price tag that Liverpool likely can’t afford.

There is no denying he would be a fantastic addition to the club’s roster and midfield options.

As one of the stand out stars of the tournament, Barella is likely to have a bright future ahead of him.

However, it is unlikely that future will be at Anfield unless the club’s financial situation were to change in the future.
