Jurgen Klopp bemused by Trent Alexander-Arnold midfield outcry

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed confusion over calls for Trent Alexander-Arnold to move into midfield.

This comes after the 22-year-old started for England against Andorra in the heart of the midfield during the international break alongside Jude Bellingham and Reds’ captain Jordan Henderson.

Often on the periphery of the national side in his more natural right-back role, Alexander-Arnold has often been urged to move into a more advanced position.

Speaking ahead of the trip to Elland Road to face Leeds United on Sunday, as cited by Paul Gorst on Twitter, Klopp has questioned the sense in switching the Scouse full-back.

Alexander-Arnold has already broken his own record for the most assists by a defender in a single Premier League season with 13 in the 2019/20 campaign.

Last term was less impressive however as the 14-cap ace scored twice and provided seven assists from a marauding right-back role.

Valued at £67.5million (Transfermarkt), the West Derby born starlet has previously touched the £100million valuation mark – proof of his exploits already.

Whilst many of the calls perhaps stem from a similar switch Steven Gerrard made early on in his career, Alexander-Arnold has gone a long way to reinventing the position in the mould of Cafu and Dani Alves beforehand.

Already a Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup winner, whatever the ace has been doing until now seems to have worked just fine.
