Klopp eyes Brewster as Sturridge replacement next season

The name Jurgen Klopp is looking to reportedly utilise as Daniel Sturridge’s replacement next season should come as a pleasant surprise for Liverpool supporters.

Sturridge joined Liverpool from Chelsea in 2013 but his contract is set to expire this summer after over six years at Anfield.

Many thought his career at the club was done when he was shipped off to West Bromwich Albion on loan last season, but he has fought his way back into Jurgen Klopp’s plans and played a part in a memorable title challenge.

With the 29-year-old set to become a free agent in July, the Times reports Jurgen Klopp could give highly-rated youth star Rhian Brewster a run in the first team.

Brewster has been edging nearer to the first-team set-up at Anfield since winning the golden boot with eight goals at the Under-17 World Cup in 2017, as England went on to win the tournament.

Like Sturridge, the 19-year-old arrived from Chelsea and probably would’ve made his senior debut by now, if it wasn’t for a serious knee injury that kept him out of action for the most of the 2017-18 season.

Brewster was also included in the Reds 23-man squad for the Champions League semi-final, first leg at Barcelona in midweek, so Klopp is certainly a keen fan.
