Klopp provides positive injury update on Oxlade-Chamberlain and Fabinho

Jurgen Klopp has given a positive injury update on Liverpool duo Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Fabinho, saying the pair are doing “really well”.

The Reds’ start to the season has been plagued by injury problems, with Virgil van Dijk and Thiago among the current absentees.

Meanwhile, Oxlade-Chamberlain hasn’t featured at all in 2020/21 because of a knee problem suffered in pre-season, and Fabinho limped off with a hamstring issue against Midtjylland last month.

Neither are expected to be back until after the international break, but their progress appears to be going well.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website on Friday, Klopp was optimistic about the midfield duo:

Doing well, that’s how it is with the boys. Especially Oxlade, it takes time but looks really good, but takes time – everybody knows that.

This is certainly an encouraging update, particularly with regards to Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has almost become something of a forgotten man at Anfield.

The 27-year-old is such an effective, versatile option to have in the squad, so his return to the fold will act as a huge boost.

Fabinho is an even more important player and he was superb filling in at centre-back before his injury. The Brazilian is one of Liverpool’s most intelligent performers and the hope is that he is back straight after the international break.

It is pleasing to see the Reds’ injury woes easing slightly, as a relentless run of fixtures continues from this month right into the New Year.
