Klopp reveals why Milner was angry at halftime against Arsenal

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Liverpool midfielder James Milner was angry during the halftime break against Arsenal because they were getting overrun in midfield, according to a report on the Liverpool Echo.

The Englishman lined up in a midfield three alongside summer signing Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum.

However, the Gunners were finding it easy to pass through the Liverpool midfield and Milner was quick to point out the reason for that.

Klopp admitted that Milner felt the wingers were too high up the field, meaning that Arsenal had more space to play into.

Klopp said:

When you have a compact formation you give the opposition the opportunity to pass into a certain place and then you press. It’s not that complicated.

But Arsenal had two or three options to pass the ball, and that makes life pretty uncomfortable for the three midfielders. We were too high on the wings.

Millie was the one who saw it for us. He was not happy about it, he was animated. He is a proper leader.

Milner was in the right place at the right time to fire Liverpool into the lead in the second half, but Alexandre Lacazette’s fine strike meant that both sides left with a point.

In the continued absence of Jordan Henderson, Milner took the captaincy and led the team well. He was typically dogged in midfield and showed high levels of energy once again.
