Lazio enter the race to sign Awoniyi from Liverpool

Lazio have entered the race to sign Liverpool youngster Taiwo Awoniyi, according to reports.

Claims from Complete Sports, a news outlet based in the attacker’s native Nigeria, have indicated that he will be a man in demand once again in the recently-opened transfer window.

Awoniyi, who is reportedly valued at £10 million, has not yet made a senior appearance for the Reds, with his failure to obtain a work permit hindering his chances of competing for the Premier League giants.

The 21-year-old arrived at Pro League club Royal Excel Mouscron during the January transfer window in his fourth temporary departure since arriving at Anfield in 2015.

He scored 12 goals in the top flight of Belgian football after a less fruitful half-season on loan with Gent, where he netted only twice.

Complete Sports claims that Bundesliga side Schalke are in the race to sign Awoniyi. David Wagner’s new club were linked with the Nigeria Under-23 international earlier on in the year, too.
