Leeds United defender issues social media apology after horror injury to Harvey Elliott

Yesterday afternoon saw the Reds cruise out 3-0 victors over Leeds United at Elland Road.

The game was Liverpool’s first back following the international break, and they looked in fine form.

Despite the glowing performance and much needed three points, the game was overshadowed by a horror injury.

In the 60th minute, Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott was subjected to an awkward challenge from Leeds defender Pascal Struijk.

The tackle left Elliott with what at first appeared to be a broken ankle, with him being carried off on a stretcher.

However, it was later revealed by Jurgen Klopp that he heard it was a disclocation rather than a break.

Following the game, Struijk took to Instagram, issuing an apology to Elliott over the injury, wishing him a speedy recovery…

As reported by the Liverpool Echo’s Paul Gorst above, the Leeds defender was clearly distraught.

As many will know from watching the game, the injury was not intentional and there was no mallice.

The tackle, however, was reckless and clumsy, hence why Struijk was issued a red card.

Elliott will now spend time in rehabilitation in a bid to get back to match fitness as soon as possible.

A time scale has not yet been confirmed as to when we may see the youngster back in action.

One thing for sure is that when he is finally recovered, Klopp will not hesitate to get him back on the pitch.

matchday.
