Leicester plot move for Coates

Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates has emerged as a transfer target for Leicester City, according to a report in The Express.

The Uruguayan spent last season on loan at Sunderland but failed to play regularly until Dick Advocaat arrived as the manager.

He started Sunderland’s last six games and helped them secure Premier League survival.

However, Advocaat is no longer in charge at Sunderland, so Coates can’t be guaranteed that the new manager will like him if he made a permanent switch to the North East.

Leicester took Robert Huth on loan last season, and are looking to make him a permanent member of their squad, but boss Nigel Pearson is also keen on signing Coates too.

The Uruguayan had this to say about his future:

“When the loan is over, I will talk [with Liverpool] about what to do next, but my goal is to stay in England because it is the best football in the world. It’s a very competitive league.”
