Liverpool made four new signings during the summer transfer window but are expected to add to their squad further in the coming months.
Andoni Iraola has a strong squad at his disposal and the Reds are expected to compete for major honours this season.
That said, they still have a few holes to fill and were in the market to sign another attacker before the transfer deadline.
Moves for Ismaila Sarr and Yankuba Minteh failed, but if reports from England are to be believed, Liverpool are keeping tabs on one of the most exciting prospects in world football.
Liverpool leading race for Nicolas Scotti
TEAMtalk report that the Reds are in pole position for Scotti, who is currently playing for Defensor Sporting in Uruguay.
He is just 16 years old and Liverpool can’t officially sign him before his 18th birthday, so a pre-contractual agreement seems like the best-case scenario currently.
That said, the Reds are ahead of Manchester United and Arsenal in the race to secure his signature, while the likes of Sao Paulo and Atletico Mineiro have also made enquiries, along with Borussia Dortmund.
Scotti is a right-sided winger but can also play on the left, making him a proper fit for Iraola’s brand of football.
The report mentions that his asking price is around £6m, but Defensor Sporting’s precarious financial state could force them to sell for even cheaper.
