A number of Liverpool fans have joked that goalkeeper Alisson could replace Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back following a superb piece of play against Manchester City.
The Brazilian has been a sensational signing since arriving from Roma in 2018, outlining his status as one of the world’s top goalkeepers.
Along with Virgil van Dijk, Alisson has been a huge reason for Liverpool’s success under Jurgen Klopp, making them far more resolute at the back and ensuring they have won the Champions League and Premier League in consecutive years.
While the 28-year-old is a world-class shot-stopper, not to mention making consistently sensible decisions, he is also famed for his distribution, allowing the Reds to play out from the back.
A clip has emerged from Sunday’s 1-1 draw away to City highlighting this attribute to perfection, with Alisson spraying an inch-perfect long ball to Sadio Mane.
That pass, @Alissonbecker 🤩
Lovely touch from Sadio too 👌 pic.twitter.com/6Y4YKO6RYS

It was a pass of which Alexander-Arnold would be proud, with the right-back renowned for his technical ability. He is now sidelined for four weeks with a calf injury, though, leaving a void at right-back.
These Liverpool fans on Twitter have jokingly called for Alisson to slot in there, although some pointed out that it would mean the shaky Adrian returning between the sticks. One remarked that the Brazilian “can’t be any worse than Kyle Walker”, who gave away the Reds’ penalty on Sunday and was duly branded an “idiot” and a “car crash” by Roy Keane on Sky Sports.
