Mohamed Salah’s bombshell statement that he will leave Liverpool this summer has dominated the news headlines this season, and today it is all about who replaces the Egyptian king at Anfield.
Arne Slot’s job is still on the line, according to some reports, with his replacement reportedly ready to join. Meanwhile, others claim that the Dutchman is not leaving the club in the summer and will be in the dugout next season as well.
We take a look at the top stories of the day:
Xabi Alonso ready to accept Liverpool return
Alonso was a key target for Liverpool when Jurgen Klopp announced his decision to leave the club. However, the Spaniard chose to stay at Bayer Leverkusen before moving to Real Madrid last summer.
According to Bild, Alonso is ready to replace Slot at the Premier League champions, but the Reds are yet to make a move. He is currently a free agent after parting ways with Real Madrid in January 2026, and has been constantly linked with a move to Anfield as Slot’s men struggle for form.
The 44-year-old has not signed for any side, and is waiting for the right opportunity before signing the papers.
West Ham United star is the perfect Mohamed Salah replacement
Mohamed Salah is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, and the club are hunting for his replacement. Fans and pundits have been naming their picks, and Ally McCoist is the latest to chime in.
The talkSPORT pundit has named West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen as the ideal replacement for Salah. He believes that the Englishman would be available should the Hammers get relegated this season and said:
“I’ll throw a name at you. West Ham’s fans will hate me for saying it, but if West Ham go down, what about Jarrod Bowen? I’m a massive fan of Jarrod Bowen. I’ve got to say, Lord, I love him. Anytime I go and watch West Ham, I mean, clearly they’ve got a big fight in their hands. And if they didn’t stay up, you would maybe suggest they’d lose one or two of their best players. He could play for Liverpool in that side.”
Bowen has a long-term contract at West Ham United, keeping him at the London Stadium until 2030.
Liverpool hike ticket prices by 3%
Liverpool have announced that the ticket prices will go up by 3% this summer. They will also be increasing over the next two summers, in line with inflation, capped at 5% annually, while freezing junior and local tickets at £9.
Adult general admission ticket prices will rise between £1.25 and £1.75 per match, while the average increase for season ticket holders is £1.42 per game.

Jürgen Klopp on Mohamed Salah after Liverpool exit announcement
Jürgen Klopp has admitted that he texted Mohamed Salah after his announcement this week, but has distanced himself from being involved in the decision. He hailed the 33-year-old for his performances at Anfield that made him a club legend and told The Anfield Wrap:
“The goals he scored. The consistency he showed. The desire grew and grew. Every year, he came back after summer break with a new skill, somehow. With a new idea, it worked out. Outside of the boot. All of a sudden, he only crossed the ball with that, and it was like ‘OMG! When did that happen?’.”
Salah played 349 matches under Klopp, scoring 211 goals and assisting 94 times. He won the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League title once during the German manager’s stint.
