Former Red feels Liverpool should sign £92.7m-rated Italian duo to ‘mount title challenge’

Liverpool are already underway with their pre-season preparations for next season’s Premier League campaign.

The club will be hoping to improve on their third-place finish from last season.

With the squad back in training and the transfer market underway, there is constant speculation over incomings and outgoings.

This summer has already seen a number of players linked with a move to the club to help improve its quality.

Now, it appears as though one of the club’s former players has a suggestion for the club’s transfer activity.

Speaking to Betting Odds, via TalkSPORT, former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson feels the club should sign Italian duo Marco Verratti and Lorenzo Insigne…

The pair were key components for Italy in their Euro 2020 winning campaign, playing almost every minute.

As Johnson states, the duo are serial winners and would easily bring growth in quality to the Liverpool squad.

However, it is unlikely that the Reds would make a swoop for both players given their values.

Verratti currently has a market value of £49.5million and doesn’t look to be wanting to leave PSG any time soon.

Whereas Insigne’s market value is not much different, with a current value of £43.2million, on top of now being 30-years-old.

It is no secret that the club is keeping an eye out for a potential replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Dutchman joined Verratti’s current club this summer on a free transfer and signing the Italian as his replacement is unlikely.

More realistic targets have been mooted such as Renato Sanches, Florian Neuhaus, and even Saúl Ñíguez.

Time will tell as to who Liverpool may sign this summer but one thing for sure is that a Wijnaldum replacement would be ideal.
