  • Liverpool continue hunt for wingers
  • PSG star latest to be added to the list
  • Reds expected to be leading the chase

Liverpool are in the market for a new winger following Mohamed Salah’s announcement to leave the club at the end of the 2025/26 season.

The Reds have been linked with a host of wingers, as the plans for the summer window have changed since the bombshell dropped by the Egyptian. They are looking to lure in 2-3 wingers as they do not see their main target, Michael Olise, leaving Bayern Munich.

RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande was touted to be the #1 target, while Wolverhampton star Mateus Mane has also been mentioned in the media. More players continue to be added to the list and now one PSG star has entered the race.

Liverpool lead chase for PSG star

According to a report in Caught Offside, Liverpool are keen on signing Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain this summer. The 18-year-old winger is open to leaving the Ligue 1 side as his opportunities have been limited under Luis Enrique.

The teenager will be entering the final two years of his deal at Parc des Princes at the end of the season, and he is considering his options. The Reds are leading a host of Premier League clubs in the chase, as they look to bolster the squad.

Manchester City, West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion are also interested in the winger, while Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also considering a move.

The publication adds that PSG are open to selling him, as they have a set squad and do not see the need to add him to the first team every week.

Mbaye suffering due to competition at PSG

Ligue 1 journalist Ambre Godillon spoke about Mbaye earlier this month, saying that the winger was suffering for minutes at the club because of the competition for his position. She added that Luis Enrique does not see him as a part of his plans and said:

“Ibrahim Mbaye, the problem is even beyond the sporting aspect, the competition, those are talking points from Luis Enrique in front of the press. Luis Enrique cannot say what is happening behind the scenes and the contractual discussions around Mbaye’s contract, who, for the moment, is not extending the adventure within Paris Saint-Germain.”

“We know that this can tense up the Luis Campos camp. I believe there is, for the moment, a point of no return. If they managed to ‘loft’ Kylian Mbappe, I’ll let you imagine Ibrahim Mbaye. Senny Mayulu still fielded. It is not the same situation, they do not have the same status, and Luis Enrique does not have the same view of them.”

Mbaye might just be the ideal addition for Liverpool on the right wing, but he should not be the starter for Arne Slot’s side. The teenager has to be the backup option with an eye for the future, while another winger, like Diomane or Olise, is signed to lead the attack from next season.
