Liverpool are weighing up a shock move for free agent Daryl Janmaat, according to TEAMtalk.
The Reds find themselves suffering an injury crisis following serious injuries to both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez. It means Jurgen Klopp could be in desperate need to bring in a new defender, either in January or even before then.
Janmaat left Watford last month and is currently without a club, meaning he could sign before the next transfer window.
This latest report claims that Janmaat has been offered as ‘short-term defensive cover’ and that Liverpool are considering making a move for the Dutchman. It added that Reds midfielder Gini Wijnaldum has raved about the 31-year-old, with whom he previously played for both Newcastle United and Netherlands.

Such is the dire nature of the Reds’ injury woes currently that Janmaat could feel like some kind of solution.
Granted, he is now 31 and hasn’t always been considered a centre-back – much of his career has been spent at right-back – but he could at least fill a void for the time being.
Janmaat is a hugely experienced international (34 caps) who has been a solid performer throughout his career, so bringing him in as a short-term fix may not be the worst idea in the world.
At the moment, simply bringing in any new face as soon as possible feels like a positive.
